Frequently Asked Questions
How is Wordiamo different from Words With Friends or Scrabble?
In Wordiamo, you can play anywhere on the board-connected to other words or not. Bear in mind that if you play an unconnected "island", you need to connect it to the "mainland" later to get any points. There are no bonus squares. Instead you get bonuses by building "bridges" between words already on the board. You also get bonuses based on word length (i.e., the number of letters played). As a result, Wordiamo is a more fluid game. It's about making words and less about defensive strategy. Learn more here.
What are Deluxe words?
Although there are no strict guidelines, Deluxe words can include proper nouns and uncommon words like recent new words, jargon, and technical terms. Many are or involve: countries, cities, languages, ethnicities, historical figures, culture, religion, slang, ethnic foods, beverages, dog breeds, mythology, scientific terms, tech terms, Latin words used in English, medicine, sports, places, days of the week, the months, astrology, and astronomy. Examples are: France, Oz, Tokyo, Marx, Jesus, Zeus, Mozart, Hebrew, Zen, Sioux, Sunday, April, Saturn, Virgo, hoverboard, photobomb, froyo, and Oreos.
How many Deluxe words should I get?
For new players, the best value is the 40 word package. If you find you're really getting into it, then you can get more or get the unlimited package. The unlimited package is also great when you are playing on both your iPhone and your iPad, since it allows you to play on any device signed in with your ID. Please note that only the unlimited package allows you to restore your purchase on other devices. Otherwise when you buy a number of plays, they only are available on the device that you made the purchase from. Because they are stored in the memory of the app package, they will be lost if you delete the app. So don't delete the app! (Updates will not delete the app.)
Can you just give me the quick version of the rules?
Why are some letters round and others square?
Bridge letters are squares. Otherwise letters on the board are round. Letters in player racks are square. (Round letters just didn't look right in a rack.)
How do I know how much a letter is worth?
From the in-game menu, press Toggle letter values.
How do I trade in letters? How do I know what letters are remaining?
Press the round button at the top to see the remaining letters in the pool together with your opponent's letters. To redraw, drag your unwanted letters into the tray and then press play.
How do I pass my turn?
Press play without placing any letters on the board. If there are four consecutive passes (or redraws) between both players the game bonks and ends.
Could you add a button to shuffle the letters in my rack?
We've implemented this without adding a dedicated button. Drag a letter below, left, or right of your rack to shuffle.
Could you add a button to retrieve letters from the board?
We've implemented this without adding a dedicated button. Double-tap your rack and your letters will return to your rack.
How do I know if I have played a Deluxe word or how many I have?
If you a play a Deluxe word, it will be reported to you surrounded by asterisks, for example, *Zeus*. Your remaining number is tracked on the Deluxe words purchase page.

- You can play anywhere on the board.
- If you play words unconnected as an island, be sure to connect them to the mainland later to score their points.
