- Open Settings > Game Center. Sign in. If you appear to be signed-in already, select your Apple ID, sign out, and then sign back in.
Game Center invitations are not getting through.
- Apple has currently stopped allowing Game Center friend invitations with iOS 9. If and when they allow them again, then proceed with the troubleshooting items below. Otherwise, it appears only iOS 10 devices can currently make game invitations directly with people you know. Alternatively, you can try the Anyone Willing matching option and try to start a game with a friend that way. Immediately after you play your first turn, have your friend start an Anyone Willing game. You can also start or receive a new game from an iOS 10 device and then return to your iOS 9 device to continue playing.
- If you are the invited player, open 1) Settings > Game Center, sign in if you're not already, and select Allow invites and 2) Settings > Game Center > Notifications and select Allow Notifications. Then have your friend resend the invitation.
- If you are the invited player, open the Game Center App and press Requests. If you missed the notification, you can accept any invitations from here.
- If you are making the invitation using an email address, make sure the address is the one your friend uses as their Apple ID. If your friend doesn't know his or her Game Center Apple ID email, they can find it at open Settings > Game Center.
- If you are making the invitation, your friend unwittingly may have a different Apple ID for Game Center than for iTunes. Have your friend open Settings > Game Center and verify the Apple ID they are using.
- If your friend is using iOS 10 and you are using iOS 9, your friend request will not be received. Apple removed the Game Center app in iOS 10 and iOS 9 friend requests cannot be accepted from iOS 10. Please upgrade to iOS 10. If this is not possible, you can borrow an iOS 10 device, sign in to both the Messages app and Game Center (from iOS Settings), and invite your friend.
Online play is unresponsive. Turns aren't being sent. New games aren't being created.
- The spinner graphic indicates that the the app is still communicating with Game Center. Don't exit the app while it's still spinning.
- If the connection with Game Center has been disrupted, usually one of the following can help: 1) exit the app and return (i.e., just press the home button and return to the app), 2) close and restart the app, 3) open Settings > Game Center, sign out, then sign back in, 4) power down your device and then try 1-3. The spinner may persist for a long time if the connection with Game Center has gone awry.
- Game Center might be having issues. Go find a healthy snack and try again.
I couldn't fix an unresponsive online game. How can I delete it?
- Sometimes Game Center mishandles a game and it can't be fixed by the remedies above. For example, Game Center may think it's your turn when it clearly is not (sorry) and at the same time won't let you send another turn. If you cannot delete the game from within the app, open the Game Center app and select Turns. Find your delinquent game, swipe left on it, and press Remove.
The app crashes.
- Sometimes the app crashes when there are too many apps open in the background. This is particularly true for older devices with less memory. To reduce the incidence of these crashes, close any non-essential apps.
My friend just sent me multiple identical new games.
- This is a side effect of dealing with server errors. The most recent game is usually the active one and you should play that one.
A new game I created was automatically declined after I sent the first turn.
- Make sure your opponent has installed the app.
- Make sure both players have the most recent version of the app.

- Make sure the app has access to Photos. You can find this setting at Settings > Wordiamo > Photos.
The app icon badge number is incorrect.
- (Sigh) You can just turn it off permanently. Do it at Settings > Wordiamo > Notifications > Badge App Icon. This is the most reliable solution.
- If you don't want to turn it off, try the following: 1) turn the badge app icon off then back on (Settings > Wordiamo > Notifications > Badge App Icon) and 2) Refresh your turns on the Game Center app. Open the Game Center app. Press Turns in the lower right corner and then press the Wordiamo icon.
